Frequently Asked Questions

FIRST (For Insporation and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global robotics community preparing young people for the future and the world's leading youth-serving nonprofit advancing STEM education. FIRST offers three main levels, FLL (First Lego League), FTC (First Tech Challenge, and FRC (First Robotics Competition). Throughout each level of FIRST, youths will learn not only how to build and program robots, but about how to develop the skills that come in handy in real-world situations, such as public speaking, community outreach, teamwork, overcoming challenges, and many others. 

People tend to assume that because the most talked about part of FIRST is the robots, the only part of the competition is robots. This is not true at all, in fact, one of FIRST's slogans is 'More Than Robots', which means exactly what it sounds like. In FLL, the robots are 1/3 of your overall score, a science project based off of a given topic another 1/3, and the core values and gracious professionalism another. FIRST encourages positive growth towards being thoughtful, inquisitive, and passionate, about everything you do, and they really highlight that with the six core values, fun, discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, and teamwork.
